Spiraling from the Arms: Hanging, Hand Sequences and Backbends (Paris)

This highly experiential workshop explores the spirals and 3D movement within the structural elements of the trunk, arms and neck via the fascia as the great connector. Through useful weight-bearing hand-sequencing and hanging motions we can restore natural movement patterns and improve the fascial integrity. Whether you’re a Stiff Sam or Hypermobile Helen, you will experience increases in strength and mobility that also improve joint integrity and stability. Spirals: The basis of Flow, Biotensegrity and Integrated Movement

Despite our greatest efforts to be linear and stand “straight”, all human movement and anatomy are based in spirals. The sooner we embrace this notion, the greater our ability to embody the essence of Pilates. Explore movement from the concept of biotensegrity, experiencing volume, support, fluidity and ease. The body really does know best; tapping into our spirals returns us to our anatomical roots and enables integrated movement that our bodies yearn for.

**Rebekah will also be speaking on the Healthcare panel on Friday at 11am.

Social Media – Friend or Foe to our Pilates Businesses and Industry?

Social media has become the key marketing tool for many Pilates teachers. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook can help attract clients, develop brands, and connect instructors worldwide. Social Media can also be used to sensationalize issues, misinform, and damage the Pilates profession. The panel will share their thoughts on how to use social media to build a business, and still be professional. Examples of the type of questions that will be explored are: How do we showcase Pilates as an entire system without reducing it to cool tricks and individual exercises? How do we guide safety and education for the public and newer teachers? How do we avoid sharing “fake news”? How do we elevate the standard and quality of Pilates? This is not a basic how-to guide for using social media, but rather a discussion with panelists who have successfully used social media to build their businesses and unite the Pilates community.

Chair: John Marston, PMA Board Director; Panelists: Rebekah Rotstein, Buff Bones®; Benjamin Degenhardt, 360° Pilates; Tracey Mallett, Booty Barre®; and Delia Buckmaster, Delia Pilates®.
